So you’re booking your first appointment. Now what?

Welcome to our clinic!

Whether you booked online or you called in, because you’re booking your first appointment, you will be creating a patient profile on Jane, a real-time, easy-to-use booking system. This will set you up with a secure online login. You can create a password and log into our booking system anytime to book, move and cancel appointments. You’ll be able to see all our practitioners, their availability and schedule yourself whenever you have time…which isn’t always during clinic hours.

Of course, you’re always welcome to call our clinic and we’re happy to help you out.

What happens during your first appointment

Regardless of which type of practitioner you’re here to see, all will take time to talk with you. The more formal disciplines of chiropractic, physiotherapy and naturopathy have first appointments set up as assessments/first visits so you can expect to be here longer and have unrushed treatment time. Our other disciplines also have extra time built into the schedule so, for example, your 60 minute massage is actually 60 minutes of massage and not 10 minutes of talking and 50 minutes of massaging.

This is YOUR clinic.
Thank you trusting us for your care.

Unhurried appointments & clear communication without unnecessary jargon

Our practitioners stay with you for the entirety of your appointment. They focus on potential, growth and solutions for you. They use language of empowerment, not limitation.  They communicate with compassion and transparency…without unnecessary clinical jargon and acronyms. We want you to understand what happens in your treatment and not have to go home and “Google” it.

Collaborative care tailored to your goals

They are not just your practitioner, they are your advocate for your health and wellness.  You will notice their voices are a combination of expert and professional yet deeply human.  During your treatment, you will feel safe.  You will be able to trust and share with your practitioner in an honest manner.  Treatment plans are often presented.  No surprises!

Your body is connected and your treatment providers should be, too. If you have questions about other practitioners or services at our clinic, please ask to be set up with complimentary Meet & Greet appointments. All “M&Gs” are 15-20 minutes and can be done in person or virtually. Collaborative, whole-person care in a supportive and accessible environment is our specialty. With your authorization, practitioners work together to form your “team”.  We’re here for you.

Following your appointment

After your appointment, follow up treatments can be rebooked in our reception area.  If you have insurance and if allowed by your plan, we do direct bill.  If there is an outstanding balance, receipts are emailed.  If no insurance, payments are received and receipts provided either by email or print.  Please review our clinic’s Payment Policy page for complete details.

  • What if I’m running late?

If you’re running late, please call us at 403-993-6337 (when it’s safe to do so). A quick call to our front desk lets your practitioner know you’re on your way and allows us to determine how best to accommodate your appointment.

Please remember that patient parking is often available behind the clinic, which may help save you a few extra minutes.

Depending on how late you arrive, your appointment may need to be shortened or rescheduled to respect the time of other patients. If you have any concerns, our Patient Care Team is here to help.

  • Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No, you do not need a doctor’s referral to book an appointment at Active Balance Health Clinic. However, some extended health insurance plans require a doctor’s note or referral in order for your treatment to be eligible for reimbursement.

We recommend checking with your insurance provider before booking your initial appointment so you understand the requirements of your specific plan.

  • Can children attend appointments with me?

Yes. We understand that arranging childcare isn’t always possible, and children are welcome to accompany you to your appointment. However, we encourage you to consider the type and length of appointment you are attending.

For example, a shorter chiropractic appointment may work well with a child present, while a pelvic health assessment, counselling session, or massage therapy appointment may be more effective and comfortable without little ones in the room.

If you’re unsure whether bringing your child is the right fit for your appointment, please contact our front desk. Our Patient Care Coordinators would be happy to help you decide what will best support both you and your care experience.

  • Which practitioner should I book with?

There is no wrong place to start. Choose the practitioner you feel is the best fit for what you’re currently experiencing. Our practitioners work collaboratively and, with your consent, can recommend other team members who may help support your goals.

If you’re unsure where to begin, our Patient Care Coordinators are here to help. Simply give us a call and we’ll guide you toward the practitioner who may be the best fit for your first appointment. We also offer complimentary Meet & Greet appointments with all of our practitioners so you can ask questions, learn more about their approach, and find the right fit for you.
